About us
Dunston Family Church is a large, actively growing family of Christians made up of men, women and children of all ages and from many different backgrounds and walks of life. We are an evangelical church which is in relationship with the other Christian churches in Dunston and the North-East.
Although most of us live in or around Dunston, we are delighted to welcome an increasing number of families from further afield, both within the UK and beyond. Recently, we have had the privilege of welcoming new friends from as far afield as: Albania; South Africa; Iran; Sierra Leone; Ghana; Angola; Cameroon and Eritrea. You may like to visit the website of one of our Iranian members.
Praise and Worship
We enjoy freedom in our relationship with God our Father, and this is
reflected in our praise and worship, drawing from a rich source of both
modern choruses, and older, well-established hymns. We are blessed
to have many talented musicians and singers, both young and old, and
regularly enjoy 'solo' or 'group' items. If you have a particular interest
in music, you may like to visit the
music website of one of our members.
Sunday School
As a family church, we welcome families with children of all ages. Teaching
them through songs, Bible stories, drama and craft, they learn of God's
love for them, and how important it is to follow the teachings of Jesus
Christ. The children stay with us through the first part of the main
service. They then have their own time of praise before dividing into
classes according to their age group, as follows:-
| Crèche | For babies and children under 3 years. Please feel free to use this facility if you need to feed or change your baby, or if he or she becomes restless. |
|---|---|
| 3 - 4 years | 'Bubbles' |
| 5 - 7 years | 'Splash' |
| 8 - 11 years | 'Xtreme' |
| 11 - 13 years | 'Rock Solid 2' |
Communion
We regularly share together in loving remembrance the Lord's Supper, as Jesus Himself commanded us.
The Preached Word of God
The Pastor or other appointed person shares with us a sermon from the
Word of God, the Bible, to encourage us in our Christian life.
Midweek meetings
A feature of our normal church life is the midweek meeting. We have
a variety of regular weekly meetings:
- Informal Bible study (Tuesday mornings, Tuesday evenings);
- The 'Alpha' Course. We regularly run this nationally recognised course in ten weekly instalments, for those new to the Christian faith, or who are interested in finding out more. We include special provision for teenagers, and for those whose first language is not English;
- Prayer meetings (Thursday mornings, Thursday evenings);
- Youth Club (Friday evenings) for 5-11 year-olds;
- Teenagers' fellowship (Friday evenings).
Social
We very much believe that God wants us to enjoy ourselves socially,
as well as provide mutual support and encouragement to each other in
times of need. There are also organised church social events throughout
the year, which help to build trust, friendship, and love within the
fellowship.
Outreach
An important emphasis within the church is that of taking the Good News
of Jesus Christ to those around us. We regularly share this in our local
community.
The bigger picture
We are committed to helping those in our nation and world less fortunate
than ourselves. We financially support the work of Tear
Fund and The
Jubilee Debt Campaign, an organisation pressing for the lifting
of third-world debt.
We believe that the putting aside of Christian values is a root cause of the moral and social decline in of our nation. Part of our responsibility to the community in which we live is to provide a clear Christian voice in the midst of much confusion. We support the work of the Christian Institute, which seeks to influence those in positions of authority in our land.
Our sincere hope is that you enjoy looking round our site, and will be personally touched by what you see and read. The Bible teaches us that we can only truly know God as our Father through Jesus, His Own Son, who was given and sacrificed for that very purpose. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, let us encourage you to take that simple step of faith.
Please visit us - we would be delighted to see you.
If you require any help, have any questions, or would like to talk more about what it means to be a Christian, please feel free to contact us.
